--- title: Food Cart Franchise Costs in the First Six Months, Philippines visibility: public --- # The First Six Months of a Food Cart Franchise in the Philippines: Costs Beyond the Package Price The package price printed on a food cart franchise brochure is the number most first-time owners remember, yet it rarely matches what leaves their bank account during the first half year of operation. The package usually covers the cart itself, the starter equipment, a first batch of ingredients or supplies, uniforms, and training, which makes it feel complete until the cart actually opens and the smaller recurring bills begin to arrive week after week. ## The site is the first cost that the package ignores A food cart needs a place to stand, and in most Philippine cities that place belongs to someone else. Mall kiosks, school canteens, transport terminals and public market corners all charge rent, and many lessors ask for two or three months of advance rent plus a security deposit before the cart is even rolled in. That upfront lump can rival a large share of the package itself, so a buyer who budgeted only for the cart is often caught short in the very first week. Anyone weighing spots should read a practical [guide on how to evaluate a franchise location in the Philippines](https://franchisenegosyo.com/guides/how-to-evaluate-a-franchise-location-in-the-philippines), because a cheaper stall with weak foot traffic can cost far more over six months than a pricier one that sells steadily from the opening day. ## Permits and the paperwork that comes with them Before selling a single cup or stick, an owner typically needs a barangay clearance, a mayor's permit, a sanitary permit, and registration for tax purposes, and food handlers often need health certificates as well. Each of these carries its own fee and its own waiting time, and the waiting time matters because rent is usually already running while the papers are being processed. ## Staff, wages and the hours a cart actually keeps A cart that opens from mid morning to late evening rarely runs on one person, and most owners end up hiring at least one crew member, often two on rotating shifts. Wages, government contributions, meals and the occasional replacement when someone resigns become a steady monthly line. In the first few months, turnover tends to be higher while the owner learns how to schedule and supervise, so a realistic budget sets aside money for training new crew more than once. ## Supplies, spoilage and the reorder cycle The starter inventory in the package runs out faster than most people expect, and after that every reorder comes from the owner's own pocket. Franchisors commonly require that key ingredients be bought from them, sometimes with minimum order quantities, which ties up cash in stock that may sit on a shelf during slow weeks. Spoilage is the hidden part of this cost, especially for drinks and perishable toppings, and a new owner who overestimates demand during rainy days or school breaks will throw away product before learning the real selling rhythm of the spot. Readers comparing beverage concepts can browse the [coffee and milk tea franchise category](https://franchisenegosyo.com/industries/coffee-milk-tea) to see how investment ranges differ when ice, cups and dairy are part of every sale. ## Royalties, marketing fees and utilities Many food cart franchises charge either a monthly royalty, a fixed marketing contribution, or both, and these continue whether the month was busy or quiet. Electricity for blenders, freezers and lighting, water, LPG for frying concepts, and mobile data for digital payments are all ongoing. When an owner compares brands, these recurring percentages and fixed fees often decide which concept leaves more profit after six months, more than the size of the upfront package does. ## The working capital cushion The cost that separates owners who survive the first half year from those who close is usually working capital, the cash kept aside to cover rent, wages and supplies during the months when sales have not yet reached break even. A cart in a new location may need several months to build regular customers, and during that time the owner is effectively funding the business. Planning for that gap, rather than hoping the cart pays for itself from the first week, is one of the most common pieces of advice from people who have already gone through it. ## Comparing concepts with the full picture in view Because each brand presents its package differently, it helps to compare them in a consistent format. FranchiseNegosyo, a free directory at [franchisenegosyo.com](https://franchisenegosyo.com/), lays out each brand's franchise fee, total investment range, royalty and payback period in the same order, so a reader can line up several food cart options side by side. The full [list of Philippine franchises](https://franchisenegosyo.com/franchises) can be narrowed by budget and city, and those leaning toward a small footprint can start with [kiosk format franchises](https://franchisenegosyo.com/formats/kiosk). For readers in Mindanao, the page on [kiosk franchises available in Kidapawan](https://franchisenegosyo.com/formats/kiosk/kidapawan) shows how a local search narrows the options to concepts that already fit a specific city. The package price is only the opening figure in a longer budget. Adding rent deposits, permits, wages, supplies, spoilage, recurring fees, utilities and a working capital cushion gives a far more honest picture of what a food cart franchise demands in its first six months, and an owner who plans with that picture tends to make calmer decisions when the slow weeks arrive.
